Los Altos, founded in 1952, is a city with five elected council members serving four-year terms after every election. The City Council organizes session on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month. Appointed commissions and committees provide advice to the Council. The history is not for rather than just in 1906, when Paul Shoup, a Southern Pacific Railroad executive, found Atlos Land Co. with some friends. The City Manager, who is appointed by the Council, is in charge of the financial and operational management of the City's 130 employees. It is in bond with different international cities such as London, Houston and Ottava. Every year, over 200 volunteers help the City government provide services to the community.
