Founded in 1847, the City University of New York (CUNY) is a renowned urban public university of the country. the first free public institution of higher education in the country, CUNY possesses seven community colleges, 11 senior colleges and seven graduate or professional colleges located in New York City and has 500,000 students. CUNY is awarding 55,000 degrees each year wherein over 80 percent graduates of the university stay in New York and contribute to the economic, civic, and cultural life of New York city and diversifying the city’s workforce in every sector. Students and faculty of the university have received many prestigious awards such as 13 Nobel prizes and 26 MacArthur “Genius” Grants. The university’s mission is to provide a high-quality public education to all students, regardless of means or background. CUNY’s graduates and faculty have also been recognized for their contributions to the development of the sciences, business, the arts.
