About Coding Compliance Specialist

What does a Coding Compliance Specialist do?

As coding compliance specialists, we are in charge of enforcing medical billing and coding policies. Our key job duties include training medical staff on a variety of medical codes that are used in treatment and insurance billing. Our additional job duties include reviewing medical records. We have to review insurance payments and denials related to billing corrections. We also have to clarify billing errors and conduct examinations while keeping up with patient security and privacy. We typically work in insurance companies, hospitals, and other healthcare facilities.

Core tasks:

  • conducting intermittent meetings with providers to include chart reviews and other related information
  • completing new physician audits and ensuring coding accuracy
  • reviewing clinic fee schedules and making required adjustments
