Columbus City Schools (CCS) is the official school district for the city of Columbus, Ohio, and serves most of the city. The district has a total enrollment of over 56,000 students, making it the leading school district in the state of Ohio as of August 2006. The school is devoted to building a culturally diverse workforce and does not discriminate based upon sex, race, color, national origin, religion, orientation, familial status, military status, or any other protected veteran status with regard to admission, access, treatment or employment and this policy is applicable in all district programs and activities. The first school built in the area which is now part of Columbus was a log cabin schoolhouse built in Franklinton and currently there are a total of 118 active schools in the district. Its mission is based upon the belief that the success of the district, and its ultimate value, primarily depends upon its people and the development of each employee will create job satisfaction and career opportunities for individuals and offer maximum benefit to the district.
