We are seeking a Community Outreach Liaison to join our team! You will be responsible for developing and maintaining positive working relationships between FilmLA and key community stakeholders in the Greater Los Angeles Region. This is a demanding and fast moving position that requires someone who is a proactive and positive thinker, and able to exercise good judgment and initiative while interacting with parties impacted by on-location filming. The ideal candidate is experienced at mediating disputes with sensitivity and enjoys talking to people and finding solutions.


  • Represents FilmLA as primary community relations contact in assigned areas of responsibility, engaging regularly with area residents and businesses in person, via email, and/or telephone.
  • Maintains daily awareness of past, present and future filming activity coordinated by FilmLA in assigned areas of responsibility, through daily review of permits-in-progress and conversations with Operations staff.
  • On a proactive basis, attends and delivers presentations about FilmLA and its services at meetings of community (residential and business), film industry (experienced and inexperienced) and government clients to the on-location filming process. Assists Outreach & Education Manager in identifying new forums and opportunities to share this knowledge. Assists New Media Specialist in updating presentation materials.
  • Gathers and disseminates information about filming concerns from local stakeholders (i.e. "location intelligence") for use by FilmLA Production Coordinators, Monitors, and City and County Permit Authorities to prevent problems with on-location filming. Assist in the aggregation of this information by entering the information in the Company software system.
  • Provides assistance to community residents with questions and concerns about filming in their neighborhood, helping them to understand filming related laws and policies that apply to their neighborhoods and how these policies affect their individual rights and responsibilities.
  • Assists Operations Department colleagues in the resolution of escalated complaints about filming in local communities, by recommending pro-filming solutions to problems in local neighborhoods.


  • Three to five years of similar or related experience.
  • A college degree or skills acquired through a combination of formal instruction and on-the-job training.
  • A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required, in addition to normal courtesy and tact. Work involves extensive personal contact with others and is usually of a personal or sensitive nature. Work may involve motivating or influencing others. Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary and often requires the ability to influence and/or sell ideas or services to others.
  • Exemplary interpersonal communication skills including public speaking, a diplomatic approach to facilitate conflict resolution, and sound judgment.
  • Direct experience with on‐location filming helpful but not required.
  • Multiple language fluencies helpful but not required.
  • Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • A California Driver License and a clean driving record.
Company Description
FilmLA is a private, 501(c)4 not-for-profit organization established for the public benefit. We coordinate and process permits for on-location motion picture, television and commercial production under contract to an ever-increasing roster of public-sector clients in the Los Angeles region. All permits are issued by the authority of and in accordance with the policies of each client jurisdiction.

We function differently than the typical film office or film commission. Most such entities are publicly-funded government agencies focused on promoting their regions to the film industry. FilmL.A. was created when the City and County of Los Angeles decided to privatize their film permit offices, allowing more flexibility in providing services to production companies and local communities.

Although FilmL.A. is funded primarily by permit coordination fees paid by production companies, ongoing community relations is a key component of the service we provide. We work to strike a balance between the needs and interests of the entertainment industry and the neighborhoods affected by on-location production.
