About Crisis Counselor

What does a Crisis Counselor do?

As Crisis Counselors, we assess the immediate and long-term physical and psychological safety of our patients in order to determine which steps should be taken next. We make joint decisions with the senior staff regarding any future action while always remaining calm and objective during life-threatening situations with the patients. We also provide helpful and useful information to our patients and their families, such as how to better their parenting skills, cope with loss, and problems solving during tough situations. We follow established actions in handling each crisis call, text and email while documenting in detail the information given in order to file adequate reports for the senior staff to see.

Core tasks:

  • determine the urgency of each interaction and provides appropriate short-term crisis counseling
  • assess the immediate and long-term safety and well-being of the client
