Culligan Water is an American company committed to water treatment. Its offices are in Illinois, in Rosemont. For domestic, commercial and industrial customers, Culligan Water specializes in water softeners, water filtration devices and filtered water. In 1938, in Wheaton, Illinois, the first franchised Culligan dealership opened, followed by another in Hagerstown, Maryland. Until 1950, when he became Chairman of the Board, Emmett was president and Harold Werhane was elected president. In the United States and Canada, the organization now has over 600 distributors and exports its goods in more than 90 countries. In 1936, Culligan was created. Emmett Culligan was its founder. In 2004, Culligan was named the number one franchise in his business by Entrepreneur Magazine. In 2012, Centerbridge Partners purchased Culligan.
