ROLE SUMMARY: We’re seeking a Senior Software Engineer who has a passion for machine learning, distributed computing, and building great data systems. You will be working with distributed big data systems and web services architecture to create engineering solutions for our Data Science Team, which is a Center of Excellence for Data Science, Data Transport and Cluster Computing at DSC. You will work closely with our team of data scientists to create the necessary data processing systems and machine learning operationalization algorithms to publish predictions and recommendations across the company. The role requires close collaboration with teammates and squad members in feature design, sprint planning, task execution, code review and feature deployment. Key to success in this role will be strong curiosity and drive to learn technologies and architectures that create scalable, reliable and secure data services.RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Architect and maintain our data Infrastructure on AWS, including:

  • AWS Lake Formation

  • Databricks

  • AWS API Gateway

  • Kubernetes/Docker/Django

  • Redshift/S3/Postgres

  • Kafka

  • Design and implement data applications on cluster computing and streaming engines

  • Design and implement data processing microservices and pipelines

  • Integrate with our vendors to collect and ingest second-party data into our data lake

  • Work with data scientists to develop engineering solutions that simplify ML model development and operationalization.

  • Work with data scientists to adjust and refactor machine learning algorithms.

  • Work with data scientists to ensure the integrity and cleanliness of data sources, to create better data wrangling and feature engineering processes.

  • Work with users and data scientists to support the requirements of downstream data consumers

  • Mentor and guide team members

  • Establish and communicate team standards and best practices

  • Collaborate in a cross-functional squad with business stakeholders, product managers and engineers from other teams to create data-enabled features in both internal and customer-facing applications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Enthusiasm to work in a fast-paced engineering team

  • BS or MS in Computer Science or a related technical field; or equivalent work experience

  • Minimum 3+ years experience with big data engineering and distributed computing systems

  • Minimum 4+ years of experience with software engineering.

  • Fluency in SQL or equivalent query language

  • Expertise in Python, Java, pySpark, Scala or similar programming languages

  • Experience working in the following domains is preferred: data mining, machine learning, statistical modeling, distributed systems, stream processing, data warehousing

  • Expertise with the following is a big plus: Spark, MapReduce, Kafka, Kinesis, Redshift, PostgreSQL, Apache Airflow, Python, NumPy, SciPy

  • Identify and evaluate industry trends in database systems to serve as a source of information and advice for upper management.
  • Develop data model describing data elements and how they are used, following procedures and using pen, template or computer software.
  • Select and enter codes to monitor database performance and to create production database.
  • Establish and calculate optimum values for database parameters, using manuals and calculator.
