The Department of Behavioral Health's mission is to offer mental and/or drug use disorder prevention, intervention, and treatment services and supports to children, teens, and adults, including emergency psychiatric care, community-based outpatient, and residential programs. Through a network of community-based providers and distinctive government-delivered services, it supports qualified adults, children, and teens, as well as their families. Saint Elizabeths Hospital, the District's inpatient psychiatric institution, is run by it.
