Ex EMC acquired by Dell 2018. I was a Presales Engineer for 27 years. There are 2 big differences between EMC and Dell-customer service at Dell is very hands off and trying to escalate problems are a challenge- folks at EMC were how can I help; folks at Dell are it’s not my job. Secondly, corporate direction is flavor of the day. If you can handle those things, it is a good place to work..but nothing special.

Pros and Cons
Rewarding
Poor quality and poor customer service.

The pay and benefits are good, if that's all you're looking for. That said, over the last few years, the quality of the working environment at Dell has dropped significantly. There are far too many layoffs (several per year - fire the good ones and hire cheap), less recognition for even exemplary work, and little opportunity for internal advancement. Though they talk a good story on that front, they don't follow through. Very qualified internal job candidates are often overlooked and not even provided an interivew for open positions for which they are qualified. It's very disheartening. Also, required training (twice/year) is often on topics that have no relation to your job description -- it's just an overall requirement, whether relevant to you or not (in other words, wasting many hours of your time just to remain eligible for bonuses). They don't fit the training to the individual departments and job responsibilities. I consider that to be either lazy or bad management choices.

Pros and Cons
Good time flexibility, WFH options
No loyalty to long-time, high-performing employees. They'll get rid of you in an instant to save $$.

Look, when I started at Dell the job was fun, people orientated and I loved working with the team. The team was incredible, great members. Management and company policies were a pain in the @$$.

Pros and Cons
At home remote was the best thing.
Overload you with stupid admin responsibilities.

When I worked on the teams of good VPs and directors, everything was great. When I moved to a different group that did essentially the same work, my experience changed. That last VP supported a you're-on-your-own approach to team development, and we chased away some talented individuals with that.

Pros and Cons
Get to work on some leading edge technology
Politics can trump good ideas
