What does a Department Chair do?

As Department Chairs, we are in charge of promoting the functioning of a department, which is the university's basic instructional unit. We are the department's principal spokespersons for staff, workers, and students. We represent central administration to department members while also communicating the department members' concerns to the administration.

Core tasks:

  • serve as a vital connection between the administration and employees of the department
  • aide the department's long-term growth within the framework of the university's vision, purpose, and objectives
  • provide assistance with the promotion of program consistency and interdisciplinary incorporation
  • help the department's administration to be more efficient
