I began working at DSS(back then) now DCF. I worked on my Masters in Social Work while working there. I believe it was the greatest learning experience of my entire career of over 35 years! You work hard. You learn to set limits on your time, you get intimately involved in the lives of your clients. I think all social workers should (serve) work 5 years before moving on. You will experience and learn so much.

Pros and Cons
Supportive work environment. Great learning opportunity
You will work hard...wait, that's not a bad thing.

In June of 2004, I began working for the Dept. of S.S. under the great skies of Garden City. I felt I had three bosses a Human Resource Manager of the Company, Human Resource Government Authority, and of course the concerns of the public. Each entity, like everything else, had its pros and cons. Firstly, I like working with people. At the Department of Social Service, there is nothing but communication and human concerns between employees and customers. The human resource manager most of the time managed their job with integrity and profession by being a leader and sharing.

Pros and Cons
employee expressive
the acquiantances of having to learn to be friendly

Worked as an AGPA in the Departments of Correction and Rehabilitation and the Department of Social Services, in Sacramento, CA. My positions entailed assurance that any actions taken were in compliance with CA State Laws and Departmental regulations.

Pros and Cons
Provided safety and security to California taxpayers and residents in the State of CA.
Like all staff work it sometimes takes time to resolve issues presented as an AGPA.
