Conditions of Employment

Required Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, Science or Education; preference may be given to candidates with a Masters degree;
Background in and understanding of core mathematical concepts;
Experience with tutoring or teaching students in developmental and/or core mathematical concepts;
Familiarity with computers and developmental mathematics software, preferrably with ALEKS;
Ability to learn new computer programs (including, but not limited to, Banner, EagleNet, etc.);
Ability to relate complex mathematics to students in a developmental environment;
Strong interpersonal and verbal skills;
Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel-Publisher unnecessary);
Demonstrated ability to promote and maintain a positive work environment to include experience working with faculty, staff and student tutors;
Demonstrated ability to apply a culturally responsive and flexible approach that is sensitive to the diverse needs, including universal accessibility, of our students, faculty, staff administrators and the public.
Preferred Qualifications
Masters degree in a relevant area;
Familiarity with ALEKS software;
Familiarity with Banner and EagleNet;
Familiarity and understanding of mathematics education research and best practices for mathematics education;
Experience as the instructor of record for courses in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, Science or Education

Work Schedule Type Regular Work Schedule
Work schedule to be determined by supervisor, with advance notice provided for schedule changes whenever needed.
Position works a cyclic schedule of 10 months each year; anticipated schedule:
Full time regular schedule, M-F 7:30am-4:30pm, mid-September through mid-June (equals 9 months full time);
Part time schedule during summer months, mid-June through mid-September (total of 1 month of time spread across the summer months as needed);
Cyclic time off during the summer months will be planned in advance;
Note: cyclic time off during the summer months is unpaid time; however, benefits continue uninterrupted during summer months.
Additional Schedule Notes:
Candidate should expect planned schedule changes during mid-September through mid-June:
Schedule changes will occur during the first two weeks of each quarter, and/or other times as needed, to fulfill position responsibilities at peak times;
Schedule changes could include the requirement to work an alternate schedule during some weeks; for example, to work longer shifts on some days, with shorter shifts on other days, all within the work week.

Teach mathematical concepts to students enrolled in MTHD 103 using one on one explanations and activities;
Assist students in developing and tracking their personal learning goals and strategies;
Establish and maintain a secure student-testing environment in the MTHD Lab;
Secure laptops and equipment in the MTHD Lab;
Trouble shoot and solve problems related to equipment in the MTHD Lab;
Hire, train, mentor and supervise MTHD 103 facilitators in the MTHD Lab;
Manage MTHD 103 facilitators work schedules and approve timesheets.

Communicate student progress and proficiency to students, faculty, advisors, and department and university administration;

Create and maintain the Math Placement Assessment website;
Schedule and proctor placement testing in the MTHD Lab;
Register students for placement test sessions;
Maintain student records with regard to placement testing;
Work collaboratively with the placement test publisher and IT staff to ensure accurate and efficient reporting of placement test scores;
Respond to inquiries about placement testing and math placement at EWU;
Collect data on, and analyze, placement score efficacy, overall placement rates and ALEKS subscription usage;
Analyze and approve placement of students into appropriate math classes using alternative methods.
