Job Description

Basic Function

The Director of Community Relations is responsible for developing and facilitating the implementation of projects related to commitment to community relations and being a valued neighbor in those communities that we serve. The Director of Community Relations will also work with key internal hospital leaders to ensure inclusion of community benefit within Ellis’s overall strategic and financial planning processes. In addition, this individual is required to work successfully with representatives from various communities, organizations and neighborhoods with respect to population health and social determinants of health.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in public health, public administration, social work or related field. Master’s degree in Public Health preferred. Minimum of 5 years demonstrated experience in community outreach, affairs and/or community based public health including, knowledge of local community groups, experience with community health education and promotion, etc..
Experience facilitating needs assessments including community health data collection and programming, especially in the Community Benefits area preferred. Understand organization governance/structure. Knowledge of nonprofit/government and for profit sector.

Responsibilities

  • Partners with key internal hospital and health system clinical leaders and administrators to strengthen community health outreach.
  • Serves as the organization’s voice in the community, representing the commitments to community health endeavors and partnerships.
  • Develops and promotes community relations opportunities.
  • Works with Clinical Departments & PCP’s to develop community relations plans and promote new and ongoing initiatives in their areas.
  • Leverages and supports community benefit expenditures and implementation. Strategies to align with the organization’s strategic priorities.
  • Ensure that population health improvements are aligned with community benefit by identifying best practices to improve quality of life and reduce health disparities in the community.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work independent.
  • Develops and promotes community relations opportunities.
  • Collaborates with Marketing Department to tell the story Community Benefit activities. Provides information for press releases, website, annual report and newsworthy opportunities.
  • Develops and maintain communication vehicles for community affairs.
  • Collaborates with the hospital’s Government Affairs and lobbying firms to ensure consistent messaging and collaboration with public officials who represent the communities.
  • Responsible for government-required Community Benefit Reporting and Analysis as well as Community Health Needs Assessment. Obtains and provides financial reporting information as required by the Finance Department.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State and local laws to ensure adherence and compliance with community benefit regulations and guidelines.
  • Manages timely and accurate compliance with state and federal regulatory guidelines and standards including Community Health Needs Assessment, Community Benefit Reports, and the state Community Service Plan.
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituents in a diverse community and organization.
  • Supports senior management team in all community led efforts.
