Function Specific Activities:

The Coca-Cola Government Relations team has an open position for a Director of Federal & Diplomatic Government Relations based in Washington, D. C.
Position Purpose:
The Director of Federal & Diplomatic Government Relations will be responsible for managing issues strategies with focus on the Health and Wellness portfolio as well as Embassy management for the global region of Asia Pacific. This role will work with the Vice President of Government Relations, the Government Relations team, the Region/Field Directors, the Communications team, Bottlers and Trade Association partners to achieve overall Government Relations & Public Affairs objectives.

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop and implement programs and strategies to enhance the Company s Policy Reputation and Strategic Stakeholder Engagement Plan to help achieve the company's federal Government Relations & Public Affairs objectives.
  • Lead and manage the federal health and wellness issues portfolio with key Congressional and Administration officials to deliver results.
  • Communicate company health and wellness positions on federal legislative and regulatory affairs/issues to government agencies, interest groups, and elected officials.
  • Work to develop strategic government affairs and excellent advocacy capabilities in the area of health and wellness across the Regions.
  • Help manage grassroots and grasstops programs and internal communications in the area of health and wellness.
  • Help steward the Coca-Cola Political Action Committee goals, membership campaign and engagement efforts.
  • Help lead the agenda at key trade associations ensuring appropriate goals are developed and results delivered.
  • Serve as the corporate liaison on key health and wellness issues.
  • Serve as a resource to the global business units in Asia Pacific and serve as point of contact at their embassies in DC.
  • Attend federal political and government events and serve as a liaison for managing health and wellness issues and coalitions.
  • Ensure proper attendance at legislative hearings, draft comments on federal rulemaking proposals, studies and analyses.
  • Track and provide legislative and regulatory information on key health and wellness issues.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of applicable political compliance laws.
  • Carry out strategies and actions with the highest level of integrity and ethics; support lobbying and other reporting efforts with transparency and timeliness.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration or Political Science preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in prior federal government, political and/or public relations experience.
  • Proven people leadership capabilities.
  • Proven ability to review and develop a position on issues involving some level of legal or regulatory complexity.
  • Highly motivated and task-oriented individual.
  • Strong intrapersonal, organizational and time- management skills.
  • Strong computer skills and experience with Internet and other research databases.
  • Well-developed writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work independently.
  • 15% - 25% travel required to areas critical to achieving federal government relations strategies.
  • Understanding of compliance laws regulating political activity.
