Job Description:

As Director, Metro New York Program for Brown University, you will be responsible for the strategic management of a comprehensive development program in the metro New York area. Responsibilities include oversight of the NY-based fundraising staff of six. The team composition of the development staff may change from time to time.

The incumbent will manage a personal portfolio of 75-125 prospects weighted toward capacity to make gifts of $1M plus to the University for which prospect qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship strategies are required. The incumbent will also oversee the fundraising strategies and progress for reporting fundraisers. This position also oversees the New York City engagement program focused on faculty and senior administrator development-focused events and other cultivation efforts and messaging, and works collaboratively with colleagues in Donor Relations and Communications to achieve overall goals in the region.

This position coordinates and facilitates all presidential, provost and senior administrator advancement-related visits to the Metro NY area, as well as engagement of key volunteers and members of the Corporation. This position must also coordinate with a range of other Advancement staff working in the Metro NY area, but not directly reporting to the incumbent, to ensure coordination and strategic engagement necessary for achieving goals across the Division. This position is responsible for building the Metro New York Program of engagement and philanthropic support throughout the BrownTogether campaign and beyond. The success of this program and key region will be vital to realizing the ambitious goals of the campaign, as the region is expected to be a significant driver of sustained support and growth in philanthropic support.

This position is located in the New York City office.

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and 7+ years related experience required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Development fundraising experience preferred; if no direct fundraising experience, the incumbent must demonstrate transferable experience from another field.

  • Familiarity with Brown University highly desirable.

  • Supervisory experience preferred.

  • Must have excellent communication skills, written and oral.

  • Proven ability to solicit and close gifts on the $1M+ level, or equivalent experience in related field (such as sales).

  • Should have a high degree of computer literacy and management information skills.
