About Director OF Nursing

What does a Director OF Nursing do?

In the role of Director of Nursing, we develop methods for coordination of nursing services with other resident services. We ensure the continuity of the resident’s total regimen of care. We maintain a reference library of written nursing material Federal and State Regulations. We develop, maintain, and update the Nursing Service Procedures Manual. We make written and oral reports to the Administrator, concerning the operation of the nursing service department. We develop an ongoing quality assurance program for the nursing service department. We also perform administrative duties.

Core tasks:

  • schedule physician visits as necessary
  • review nurses’ notes to ensure that they are descriptive and informative of the nursing care
  • monitor medication passes and treatment schedules
  • schedule daily rounds to observe residents
  • determine if nursing needs are being met
  • provide direct nursing care if necessary
  • assure Resident Safety
