Job Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
  • Education: Graduate from a School of Nursing.
  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree required within 3 years of orientation completion.
  • Licensure: Valid license to practice Nursing in the State of Ohio.
  • BLS, Healthcare provider required.
  • ACLS required.
  • PALS required.
  • ENA Certification preferred.
  • TNCC Certification preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years recent and relevant clinical experienced required; Emergency Department experience preferred; previous experience in a leadership role (i.e. management position, charge nurse, etc.)
  • Evidence of effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Leadership qualities and human relations skills necessary to work with patients, staff, managers, and physicians.
  • Evidence of ability to effectively develop and coach multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience in program development, product line management desired.
  • Knowledge of legislative and regulatory requirements in relevant field.
  • Self-directed with ability to command multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficient in the use of computers, including Microsoft Office products, experience with an electronic health record, preferred.
  • Exhibits a community and customer service focus.

  • Serves as the on-site Nurse Executive and is responsible for the provision of nursing services 24 hours a day, 7 days per week.
  • Serves as spokesperson to the Board of Directors on behalf of nursing.
  • Leads the development and writing of and approves: standards of nursing practice for the hospital; standards of patient care, treatment, and services; policies and procedures; staffing plan(s); and standards to measure, assess, and improve patient outcomes.
  • Provides for periodic rounding on patients & families, providing updates and initiating service recover on identified issues. For example: demonstrates friendliness and courtesy, effective communication creates a professional environment and provides first class service.
  • Holds others (Colleagues, Physicians and Volunteers) accountable for exhibiting the Service Excellence Behavior Standards. This includes, but is not limited to, celebrating excellence in behavior and approaching anyone with courtesy and respect who is not demonstrating Service Excellence.
  • Owning and resolving Service Recovery concerns.
  • Managing Performance:
  • Provides coaching, support, guidance and supervision of employees in their respective service area, maintaining 24 hour accountability.
  • Interview, hire, orient, counsel, evaluate, and retain employees.
  • Establishes work schedules & daily assignments.
  • Participates in direct patient care activities as needed.
  • Functions as a clinical resource for staff.

  • Develops new programs in response to identified community, organizational and/or patient needs.
  • Financial Performance:
  • Responsible for charge entry process and accountable for charge error correction.
  • Responsible for labor, supply, and equipment control / management control and cost containment.
  • In collaboration with President and Chief Operating Officer, develops operating and capital budgets for review; ensures financial performance and profitability of designated areas through the development and monitoring of the operating and capital budgets in accordance with the Finance Department's standards.
  • Monitors, reports & makes adjustments to operating budget to reduce and / or eliminate variance.
  • Performance Improvement:
  • Oversees, directs, develops, monitors & reports quality indicators for emergency & inpatient services focusing on optimal patient outcomes, regulatory compliance & risk management, customer service, and continuous quality and process improvements.
  • Participates in performance improvement process teams. Directs and facilitates implementation of effective systems for regulatory compliance and continuous survey readiness.
  • In conjunction with the President and Chief Operating Officer, is willing to function in the role of safety coordinator.
  • Communication:
  • Develops and maintains effective working relationships with all stakeholders and community organizations to promote service to all customers.
  • Provides staff education and communication at department meetings.
  • Established and maintains strong positive communication with patients and families.
  • Fosters an environment that ensures designated areas have the information necessary to function optimally.

  • Plans & implements departmental education & training.
  • Promotes professional growth & clinical competence.
  • Ensures optimal patient care through on-going evaluation of the educational needs of staff.

  • Maintains a responsible attitude toward individual performance in accordance with approved policies & procedures.
  • Responsible for the meeting individual education and training requirements.
  • Responsible to facilitate improvement in patient care services, staff / physician relationships and the working climate.

  • Attends departmental & facility meetings as required.
  • Assists in orientation of new staff and participates in student instruction and experiences when requested.
  • Assists in maintenance of departmental compliance with continuous regulatory readiness.
  • Attends and participates in community events on behalf of Diley Ridge Medical Center.
Other Job Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for compliance with Organizational Integrity through raising questions and promptly reporting actual or potential wrongdoing.
  • Participates in and coordinates with organizational process to collect and evaluate information about hazards and safety practices that are used to identify safety management issues. Adheres to established policies and procedures, which may include wearing of personal protective equipment.

  • In collaboration with management company Emergency Management Coordinator:
  • Staff implementation of the four phases of emergency management (mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery).
  • Staff implementation of emergency management across the six critical areas (communications, resources and assets, safety and security, staff responsibilities, utilities, and patient clinical and support activities).
  • Collaboration across clinical and operational areas to implement emergency management hospital-wide.
  • Identification of and collaboration with community response partners.
  • Ensures accurate utilization of the inpatient area and appropriate assignment of bed status with admitted patients.
  • Leadership oversight of the stroke program.
  • Accepts other duties, responsibilities and / or special projects as assigned by the President and Chief Operating Officer.
