Job Title: Director, Public Relations, Pharma Services Reports to: Senior Director, Communications, Pharma Services Dotted to: Senior Director, Public Relations, Corporate Based in: Waltham, Massachusetts The Director of Public Relations joins a global team of communications professionals to deliver a simple-to-understand message about Thermo Fisher’s role in delivering high quality medicines to our Pharma Services customers and the patients they serve. This position will focus on developing the high-level messaging that increases awareness of Thermo Fisher’s Pharma Services business strategic initiatives. Develop or source drug substance for large and small molecules, provide viral vector contract development and manufacturing services, design formulations, create clinical supply chain strategies, develop and distribute clinical trial products, and flawlessly execute drug product launches for both clinical and commercial The Director of Public Relations will lead the Pharma Services business efforts to leverage our strategic initiatives to continue to position Pharma Services and an industry leader. This position will work closely with the Pharma Services Communications team, Thermo Fisher’s Corporate Communications team and other internal and external communications professionals throughout the company. Essential Job Functions and Expectations Develop a strategic communications plan for Pharma Services to create high-level awareness among key audiences and combine earned, owned and paid media to position Thermo Fisher as one of the world’s most admired companies. Your key audiences include our customers, current and potential employees, and the leaders and residents of the communities where we live and work. Protecting our company’s reputation while managing through change – facility actions, crisis situations, etc. Support the communications team’s planning and execution of change management activities and lead merger and acquisition communications teams. Recommend the top priority media targets and messages, focusing our leaders and our efforts on the most impactful opportunities that balance media exposure with business growth. Be a trusted advisor to the Pharma Services Leadership Team Build and nurture relationships with selected media outlets. Develop, write and/or approve messaging for corporate and trade press releases and pitches; talking points and speeches for media interviews and public events; social media content; media statements, op-eds, letters to the editor, and similar content. Position business leaders as subject matter experts and identify appropriate outlets for content. Monitor media coverage and identify opportunities to participate in industry dialogue. Organize media briefings and press conferences at trade shows and other public forums. Organize and provide media training and coaching. Identify, manage and work with PR firms. Qualifications: Personal attachment to our Mission of enabling our customers to make the world healthier, cleaner and safer; A degree in public relations or journalism is required. A minimum of 10 years of experience in communications, preferably in a publicly traded company; Familiarity with social media trends and measurement platforms. Strong business acumen and an ability to clearly communicate complicated issues in simple terms. Strong analytical skills and ability to think strategically; able to align company strengths and goals with PR opportunities and challenges leading to increased awareness and business growth. Unquestionable commitment to business ethics and personal integrity. Self-directed and self-motivated; ability to work under pressure with a positive attitude Ability to work as part of a team in a highly-matrixed organization. This role is expected to travel 30 percent globally per year
