About Director OF Project Management

What does a Director OF Project Management do?

In the role of director of project management, we lead the project management office of a (usually large) organization. Our aim is to provide leadership, guidance, and inspiration to project managers and drive improvements related to delivery and client relationships. We propose and build scalable processes and systems, we identify areas of collaboration, and we communicate and collaborate with other management groups. We are part of the company’s executive team.

Core tasks:

  • mentoring and advising project managers
  • ensuring team delivers on stated objectives
  • ensuring compliance with guidelines and processes
  • assuming ownership of project management processes, systems, and tools
  • organizing project teams
  • overseeing development of project planning documentation
  • developing project schedules and milestones
  • providing status reports to executive team
