Job Summary The Leader is responsible for planning, budgeting, operations, staffing, and the overall direction of the Plant Engineering. The Leader serves as an expert, mentor, consultant, team leader, and facilitator in the department. The Leader develops, implements, and evaluates assigned systems at the discretion of the Administrative Leader/Support Services. The Leader serves as the primary resource for all practices, processes and systems of the service, providing 24-hour accountability for the department. Oversees the maintenance of buildings, grounds, electrical, and mechanical system, and equipment and their distribution systems. Assists with the planning and development of physical facilities. Directs and establishes preventative maintenance program. Oversees Biomedical staff. •Job Specifications EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE 1.Education a.Two years of college course work with emphasis in engineering and/or management. b.Trade or vocational courses in related areas. c.Required to have current CPI certification (to allow response to codes). If employee is a new hire and previously had CPI , it will be required to have current certification within 90 days of hire date to be able to continue to work. If new hire has not had CPI previously, it will be required to have current certification within 180 days from hire date to be able to continue to work. d.A current class “D” Driver’s license is required. 2.Years and Types of Previous Experience. a.Three years of progressive experience in maintenance of buildings, utilities, and equipment. b.One year experience in managerial position preferred. JOB KNOWLEDGE : Must be knowledgeable of hospital management techniques, JCAHO guidelines, NFPA Life Safety Code, and Federal and State regulatory agencies’ requirements. Responsible for meeting standards set by applicable national, state, and local building codes. ABILITIES , INTERESTS AND TEMPERAMENTS 1.Understanding and ability to use word processing and spreadsheet software. 2.Verbal ability is required to communicate with staff, contractors, and others; to gather and analyze data for reports and to keep informed of new developments. 3.Numerical ability is required to prepare departmental budgets and estimates for new construction or repairs and maintenance. 4.Spatial perception is required to read and understand blueprints and specifications of new construction, installation and maintenance of equipment. 5.Ability to analyze, organize, and delegate. 6.Visual acuity required to adequately access, read, understand, prepare, and present written and on-line material. 7.Sound interpersonal, organizational, decision-making, problem solving, and customer services skills necessary to respond and satisfy customers exhibiting high stress behaviors is required. 8.Ability to communicate effectively and concisely with all members of the interdisciplinary care team, accurately transmitting and receiving on-line, verbal and telephone communications. 9.Ability to remain calm and courteous while working in stressful situations. 10.A preference for working in and organizing activities that are carried out in relation to established processes and techniques. 11.A preference for machines and techniques to insure safe, sanitary, and efficient operation of physical plant, of hospital complex and its utilities. 12.Ability to make emergency decisions in respect to failure of plant utilities or other delegated responsibilities. 13.Ability to comprehend a wide range of technical subjects and coordination of details. 14.Must have the ability to work with a variety of people of diverse populations (e.g. cultural diversity, employee workforce, ages from adults through geriatrics, hearing impaired, physical and mental disabilities and variety of educational and cognitive levels).
