The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) was founded in 1973 by the Reorganization plan number 2 of 1973. The agency proposes the coming up of a single federal intervention to enforce drug laws, coordinate and consolidate the government’s drug regulator efforts. The congress passed the proposal as there were concerns with the increasing availability of drugs in the US. The agency has an estimated 600 special agents of the bureau custom controls. The federal law enforcement agency operates under the department of justice and is tasked with controlling drug distribution and trafficking in the US. The agency is solely responsible for pursuing and coordinating the US drug investigations both in the US and abroad.
