I have done 3 stints with AT&T and seen it from several angles: as a contractor (3 times) and as a project manager. Compensation is good, training is top-tier, promotions are good, and benefits are excellent. This is an old company with some powerful forces going on inside. There is a mix of really good people and some really, really bad ones. The bad people are like dragons who leave a trail of blood wherever they go. Don't get noticed by them; they are power-players on a big scale and take no prisoners. On the flip side, HR seems to be aware of this and is as supportive as they can be in the circumstance. (There is a lot of red tap and a lot of politics.) If you know how to navigate the landmines, this is a place where you can potentially work out your entire career.

Pros and Cons
Compensation is good, training is top-tier, promotions are good, and benefits are excellent.
Politics factors in unusually big-ly in this company.
