Located in Johnson City, Tennessee, East Tennessee State University is a public land grant academic institution, operating as a part of the State University and Community College System of Tennessee, but is governed by an institutional Board of Trustees. Its extensive and revolutionary research programs have helped the university to be ranked and classified among 'R2: Doctoral Universities – High research activity', facilities, alongside unique accredited programs. The university was established as the East Tennessee State Normal School in 1911 to educate teachers, becoming the East Tennessee State University in 1963, adopting the name it holds today. 14300 plus students are currently offered with its comprehensive curriculum, in their respective fields, focused on creating a student-centric community of learning, reflecting high standards and promoting a balance of liberal arts, professional preparation, and future success.
