East Tennessee State Company Reviews and Ratings
Assistant Professor
Johnson City, TN - January 6, 2022
The dept head was removed for sexual harassments of professors so the department had challenges. The teaching and support were excellent and it was a great environment to begin a teaching career.
Pros and Cons
Great colleagues, good program, excellent teaching opportunities and learning of new technology.
Poor Dept Head. Leadership was lacking.

Adjunct Chemistry Professor
Johnson City, TN - September 8, 2021
I was hired to teach two lower-division chemistry courses. I soon ran into problems. One of the class sections was too large. The key card I was given to enter one of the classrooms did not work and later had to be recoded. The Chemistry Department Head acted like she was afraid of me and did not give me sufficient support. I caught two students cheating on an exam. I complained to the Dean of Arts and Sciences about the Chemistry Department Head and one of my classes was taken away from me. I was called in to talk to the Dean with the Chemistry Department Head present and my other class was taken away from me. After I left ETSU I found out from a former student that that the students in those two courses were asked to drop the courses when I was told at the time that another professor would take over. The Chemistry Department Head was soon demoted. I wrote a letter of complaint to the University President.
Pros and Cons
The only positive aspect of the position was that I had a few good students.
I was not treated with respect by the Chemistry Department Head. Students were very rude to me.
