Chevron’s in-house agency, Bluehouse, is looking for a Editor in Chief to join our team.
The Editor in Chief (EIC) is Chevron’s lead storyteller. The EIC defines a global editorial plan that comes to life throughout our digital ecosystem: Chevron.com, newsletters, and our internal news site.
They will work across divisions to build thought leadership and position Chevron as leader in the future of energy. This is a highly visible role that requires vision, an entrepreneurial spirit, and a proven track record of stellar performance within a competitive media organization or global, blue-chip brand.
The EIC sits within our in-house agency, Bluehouse. They will direct a talented internal Newsroom team that includes content strategists, editors, writers and digital producers. They must also be comfortable working with external creative and digital agencies to create content and evolve our platforms.
Responsibilities:
Responsible for overall management of the Chevron’s Content Newsroom
Sets the global content plan and gains alignment across leadership, and key stakeholders from Corporate Affairs:
Leads the Content Newsroom team (content strategists, content creators, video producers, etc.) in the development of the plan
Partners with BU/OpCo teams to ensure major moments, events and announcements are properly supported
Works across disciplines (corporate channels, paid, social, external affairs, partnership & events, internal comms, employee experience, etc.) and aligns content calendars
Partners with the Analytics & Insights to leverage trendspotting, content insights, key learnings from previous quarters and analytics to inform the overall content strategy
Works across an integrated internal team and agency partners, who support content strategy, planning, creative, production and global owned channels:
Has ultimate authority over what publishes on Chevron’s owned channels
Helps lead and inspire a team of creatives and producers to produce top quality creative assets– reviews creative briefs for marquee content
Works with the digital platform teams to ensure platforms support storytelling today and for the future
Uses and models an agile approach to content development
Occasionally creates their own content for publication
Required Skills:
Minimum of 10+ years of experience in media, content, advertising or communications
Management experience leading a newsroom at a major publisher or news organization, preferred additional experience leading a matrixed content team at a major brand
Deep expertise and understanding of traditional and new energy sectors
Experience with content distribution, optimization, and measurement
Proven experience guiding teams in campaigns across many platforms and ability to inspire and lead through influence, with or without direct reporting lines
Ability to take an idea and build it into a cohesive and clear content plan that internal teams and agency partners can execute against
Ability to achieve results in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, often on short deadlines
Superb communication skills, including writing, verbal and editing
Candidate can be located in one of three locations:
San Ramon, California (Bay Area)
Houston, Texas (Downtown)
Washington, D.C.
Bluehouse, Chevron’s in-house agency, is currently working remotely for non-business critical roles—but is transitioning to a hybrid work model this summer with employees working at least three days in one of these three physical offices.
