What does an EMT-B do?

As EMT-Bs (Emergency Medical Technicians-Basic), our primary tasks include providing pre-hospital emergency medical care and basic life support. We respond to emergency calls, perform medical assessments, and manage patients' vital signs. We assist in stabilizing and transporting patients to healthcare facilities. We also document patient information and care provided during the emergency. Additionally, EMT-Bs maintain and restock medical equipment and supplies.

Core tasks:

  • Responding to emergency calls to provide efficient and immediate care
  • Conducting patient assessments to determine the nature and extent of illnesses or injuries
  • Administering basic life support and first aid, such as CPR, bandaging, and splinting
  • Assisting with the stabilization and transport of patients to hospitals or medical facilities
  • Documenting patient conditions, care provided, and any other pertinent information for future reference
