Job Summary:
Responsible for Product Engineering leadership, guidance, coordination and project management.Manages and leads the activities of Engineers, Designers, Drafters and Technicians associated with Broan Exhaust Ventilation Engineering.
Job Responsibilities:
Works with the Director of Engineering, as well as the Sales and Marketing leadership, to develop, implement, and maintain the product innovation strategy and roadmap.Consult to, and advise, Sales, Marketing, Supply Chain, Operations, and Quality personnel on product developments, enhancements, and cost reductions being considered.Determine product technical feasibility. Assist in determining product financial viability.Determine and author product technical requirements to meet customer and market needs.Lead selected key strategic programs. Perform project management on assigned projects.Follow the established Broan stage-gated product development process. Identify required project phases and elements and delegate required phase and element tasks to team members.Manage established project schedules and budgets. Control project spending by approving expenditures. Provide status updates as required.Perform product design and redesign including prototyping, engineering calculations, and verification testing. Lead the creation and execution of test plans.Perform design trade studies.Lead design reviews.Support the use of FMEA tools.Use mathematical and analysis capabilities to provide data-driven conclusions. Contribute to identification and evaluation of design alternatives. Formulate a relevant opinion/solution and make recommendations. Identify alternative solutions and evaluate trade-offs regarding strengths and weaknesses. Articulate these within the business context.Manage product costs to established targets via costed Bills of Materials.Coordinate and manage product Certifications including UL, cUL, CSA, HVI, and AMCA.Develop and implement new Engineering, tools, procedures, and processes to improve the efficiency of the New Product Development process and of the department.Drive assigned department staffing activities, including full-time and contract.Conduct formal performance evaluations for direct reports. Create and monitor employee development plans.
Job Requirements:
A Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university is required. An advanced degree in Engineering is desired.At least 7 years of experience in progressive Engineering responsibilities is required. Experience managing direct reports is desired.Desired experience in the following Engineering functions:
Designing and analyzing mechanical devices and integrating electromechanical componentsReview of drawings and application of geometric dimensioning and tolerancingMulti-site Product Development ProgramsStage-gated Product DevelopmentIntellectual Property filingsKaizen or Continuous Improvement methodologies
The work requires the ability to communicate through verbal, written, and electronic means.Strong verbal and written communications skills. Demonstrated skills in presenting and articulating design trade-offs. Deliver presentations that are tailored to the audience. Provide alternatives from the business perspective. Be able to support under critical review.Provide regular status updates, verbal and written, as requested. Speak and write effectively to convey status and information to project team and managers. Involve all relevant staff members in communications. The work requires the ability to work effectively within a PLM/PDM system.The job requires working closely with others in a team environment, developing and motivating fellow workers.Successful delegation of direct authority as well as influence without direct authority.Interaction with domestic and foreign suppliers and other Broan operations. This includes conference calls and travel as required.Receive general direction, but exercise discretion as to time management, independently identifying, prioritizing and executing tasks. Must possess strong initiative and drive in meeting project milestones and completing deliverables.Demonstrate follow-up and follow-through. Must be organized and methodical, with attention to detail.

Experience in air movement and/or ventilation and/or appliance design is desired.Design experience with sheet metal and welded fabrication, and plastic injection molded components.Fluency in other languages spoken throughout Broan global facilities - Mandarin Chinese, French, Italian, or Spanish.
Physical Requirements:
The work requires the ability to lift, carry and rotate 180 degrees materials and products which weigh from under ten (10) pounds to seventy-five (75) pounds. It requires the ability to carry up to 75 pounds up a flight of stairs.The position requires the ability to read electronic and manual gauges and record information in bright and low light environments.The position requires the knowledge and ability to use PC computers and keyboards.
