Founded in 1998 by two facilities managers Al Avery and Jay Adelson, Equinix is an American multinational company. This California, United States based firm specifies Internet connection and data centers. It launched its own data center infrastructure management platform, IBX SmartView in 2017 whereas its Internet Exchange service allows ISPs and enterprises to exchange Internet traffic through a global peering tool. Equinix is a leader in global colocation data center market share with 210 data centers in 25 countries on five continents. Equinix signed three contracts with the U.S. agency Customers and Border Protection according to data collected by the online publication Sludge in 2018 to offer “information technology support equipment” totaling over $5 million. The company had approximately 8,700 employees worldwide as of 2020 and is listed on the NASDAQ stock exchange under the ticker symbol EQIX.
