The Federal Government is the national government of the United States and a federal republic in North America which was founded in 1789 with its headquarters based in The White House and is made up of 50 states, a federal district, five main self-governing territories and many island possessions. Legislative, executive, and judicial are the three distinct branches of which the Federal Government is made up of, whose powers are vested by the U.S Constitution in the Congress, the President and the federal courts respectively. The powers and duties of these branches are further defined by the acts of Congress. The United states of government is based on the principles of federalism and republicanism, in which potential is proportioned between the federal government and state government. The power of the government have expanded greatly since the American Civil War, although there have been periods since that time of legislative branch dominance.
