The idea of introducing higher schooling to the Flathead Valley started in 1960 when Owen Sowerwine, chairman of the local school board, expressed his frustration about the shortage of post-secondary education options for young people in the valley. A 1959 survey found that only 20% of Flathead High School graduates were in higher education. Their students go on to lead prosperous lives whether they move on to four-year colleges and universities in Montana and the country or take advantage of over 50 career and technical programmed that train them to enter today’s workforce. FVCC staff play a crucial role in promoting this project in the College culture. FVCC is an equal opportunities employer and an agency for affirmative action. It is the policy of the FVCC that all people are entitled to equal work opportunities regardless of color, sexuality, creed, political ideas, sex, gender identification, sexual orientation, age, marital status, and veteran status.
