About Flight Dispatcher

What does a Flight Dispatcher do?

We, the flight dispatchers, co-ordinate different activities and remain on the ground at airports to ensure the quick, safe, and efficient turnaround of aircraft when they land to the time and when they depart from the airports. We ensure that all the flight operations systems at the airports are maintained in a timely and accurate manner. We also make sure flights are dispatched efficiently and all regulatory and company checks are performed.

Core tasks:

  • monitoring aircraft departures and arrivals and adjusting turnaround schedules on time of delays
  • ensuring that tasks and liaising with crew on the ground, such as refueling, cleaning, and loading, are completed on-time
  • calculating quantity of fuel required for the aircraft’s weight and distance of journeys
  • calculating payloads (weight of passengers, luggage, cargo, and fuel) and preparing plans of where they should be positioned in the aircraft
