The Florida State College was established in 1966 in Jacksonville, Florida. Its first name was Florida Junior College. Later on in 1986 the institution was named as Florida Community College at Jacksonville. The main reason for this changing was community college movement. There was a shortage of four year colleges in Florida State. So, the Florida Legislature passed legislation to establish Florida College System. The Florida Community College at Jacksonville was among the very first community colleges to make the amendment. Simultaneously Florida Community College at Jacksonville announced the amendment to their present name, “Florida State College at Jacksonville” in 2009. The Florida State College at Jacksonville has four major campuses and currently enrolls more than 51000 students. The FSCJ is devoted to concept of equity and equal opportunities.
