About Food Scientist

What does a Food Scientist do?

As food scientists, we study the food composition properties and ingredients to ensure safe consumption. We are tasked to determine the nutritional value, texture, flavor and colour of food. We are responsible for testing samples of food for specific harmful moulds, yeast and bacteria. We are in charge of ensuring conformance to food processing standards. We employ our knowledge to devise new methods of manufacturing food items. We are responsible for approving the production of new food products. We establish and set the safety and quality standards to be adopted in the company. We similarly determine cost-effective production techniques for wholesale pricing.

Core tasks:

  • analyze the physical and chemical food composition
  • test food samples for bacteria, moulds and yeast
  • ensure conformance with food production standards
  • research on better and cost effective manufacturing methods
  • approve new products for production
