About Food Technologist

What does a Food Technologist do?

We food technologists test and examine samples of food products. We are responsible for planning recipes for new product ideas and monitoring their large scale manufacturing. We undertake the modification and enhancement of existing food recipes. We are tasked with designing and assessing processes and machinery for producing new recipes on large scale. We are responsible for ensuring that proper safety and hygiene standards are adhered to. We also monitor the additives used in the manufacturing of food items. We guide the selection of raw products from suppliers to ensure they are up to standard. We are responsible for writing reports on product in the pipeline and those in the market.

Core tasks:

  • test and inspect food samples
  • plan recipes for new products
  • monitor large scale production of new products
  • modify and enhance old recipes
  • design machinery and process for new recipes
  • ensure adherence to desired safety standards
  • monitor use of additives
