After 13 years of preparation, the West Michigan Horticultural Society opened Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park in April 1995. Fred and Lena Meijer were asked for their support in 1990, and they enthusiastically agreed to help create a major cultural attraction focused on horticulture and sculpture. The initial vision has become a premier cultural destination in the Midwest. The ambition and commitment of Meijer Gardens are to leave behind a heritage of lifetime understanding, pleasure, and wealthy intellectual knowledge for potential productions. It is a private non-profit organization supported by grants, foundations, and individual and corporate donations. In Grand Rapids, Michigan, one of the nation's finest horticultural show gardens and sculpture parks, experience masterpieces of art and nature that will delight the senses.
