Freeport-McMoRan Inc. which is often called Freeport is a mining company which was founded in 1912 by Eric Pierson Swenson, et al with its headquarters based in the Freeport-McMoRan Center, in Phoenix, Arizona. The present company came into existence in 1981 with the merger of Freeport Minerals, initially Texas Freeport Sulphur Company and McMoRan Oil & Gas Company, becoming Freeport-McMoRan Inc. It is the supreme producer of molybdenum and one of the supreme producers of copper which holds a 100 percent interest in Kisanfu which is a copper and cobalt exploration project positioned near Tenke, Democratic Republic of Congo. The company declared an agreement to sell its interests in TF Holdings to China Molybdenum Co. Ltd in May 2016 for $2.65 billion in cash.
