Job Description

The primary responsibilities for gallery manager include managing all day-to-day operations for the gallery, exhibition preparation and maintenance, and inventory control and sales. Their duties include working with artists and collectors; setting up exhibitions; hiring, training, and supervising employees; maintaining the physical surroundings of the gallery; hosting gallery tours; selling artwork; monitoring expenditures and receipts; corresponding with clients and artists.Essential Functions:High level oversight of all day-to-day gallery operations including employee management, inventory tracking and exhibition installGeneral gallery upkeep and maintenance of building facilitiesSet actionable goals for, and oversee gallery staff: Registrar, Sales Associates and Art HandlersGenerate sales revenue and monitor sales activity to ensure goals are metDevelop and expand collector base by cultivating a network of high-net-worth clientsDevelop employee scheduling to ensure sufficient staffing of the galleries, including cover where necessary for holidays, sickness and special eventsEnforce the highest standards of service in all visitor-facing spacesIdentify and deliver training and development needs for the teamLiaise with artists to coordinate incoming artwork, negotiate terms of consignment and process consignor payoutsWork with Finance Department to develop and manage all areas of gallery’s finances, including annual and exhibition budgetsBuild and maintain client relationships and deal with visitor inquiries as requiredMaintain offsite and onsite inventory and keep inventory databaseupdatedEnsure the physical safety of artwork throughout the galleryArrange and lead gallery team briefings/debriefings for each exhibition in conjunction withDirector and ensure that all associates are aware of standard operating proceduresBeing responsive to issues as they occur, fixing technical faults or coordinating necessary tasks with Third Party ContractorsManage installation for gallery exhibitions and all technical or construction work that might be neededGeneral administrative duties, including upkeep of IT systems and communication networksEnsuring the smooth running of all exhibitions, overseeing the maintenance of the exhibitions and the building, in coordination with the rest of the teamQualificationsBachelor's degree in Design or Art / Art History Visual communications or digital media experience a mustManagement level experienceKnowledge of social platforms (Twitter, Tumblr, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, Pinterest, Snapchat, etc.)
