Working hard, foregoing time off, and accepting that the company is not doing well so pay increases are unavailable, retrospectively I should have taken time off, not worked 10 - 12 hour days without compensation! The company restructured and my job dissolved!

good colleagues
never sure if you will be restructured out

Even though I worked for G.E. only for about 8 months (Got a much better job offer with local government), I enjoyed my time with the company. This a conglomerate and the opportunities to advance or enter another field, are endless. My co-workers were cool and we all helped one another. My manager was a good guy and easy going. We worked with a home-developed suite of applications, which were very advanced and effective. I don't have any complaints at all about General Electric and highly recommend working there if anybody wishes to do so. I would go back in a minute if I lost the new job.
Pros and Cons
Opportunities to advance or enter another field, are endless.
Nothing to complain about

GE's pay is below average. As an engineer, you will learn a lot at customer's sites. This will increase your trouble shooting skills and understanding how gas turbines work along with all the other equipment. Once you have the skills, you will be paid better at an end user than as a GE employee. If you go into power generation, you want to be a mechanical engineer, few customers want controls engineers. Why? Mechanical engineers will run shut downs and turn arounds. This means they will pay you, instead of GE engineers to mechanical repairs. And you will not have to travel. As a control engineer, I was on the road 70% of the time.
Pros and Cons
Good training is all I can say.
Low pay, and advancement is limited.

Ample opportunities to leverage Crotonville training programs. Didn’t matter if you came with an MBA, as GE was an institution which made it into the MBA curriculums. You were living the MBA curriculum. On top there were opportunities presented to folks to enroll in Crotonville trainings, which were conducted by professors from IVY League universities.
Miss the place. Very unfortunate that a legacy corporation and institution had to shrink so much.
Pros and Cons
Smart people, sky was the limit, play hard and work hard
Low salaries, bad decisions by leadership

Huge company with plenty of growth opportunities and different divisions you can find yourself working for. Had some of the best health Benifits and stock splits when I worked their back in the late 90-2004, not sure how things are now a days.

Able to move to different business within GE and not lose seniority.

Ten yrs of wrkn there and countless times of having screw put in my tires by mentally disturbed individuals or those with drug addiction or having to worry about having my converter’s stolen off my car by random maintenance employees working there or people that are allowed to just drive on the property on top of and dealing with the conflicts caused by the salary AND union I’ve finally reached my boiling point and had to walk away after having my hrs cut by salary and being forced to work every Saturday by the union rules while the union basically extorted me for a percentage of my pay every week and all I got is a T-shirt maybe once or twice a year…GEA has a high turn over rate for all those those reasons… and that’s my truth
Pros and Cons
Paid wkly and no random drug testing
You’ll work with all types of mentally unstable people that the union protects while they extort you
