The Georgia Department of Corrections is in charge of roughly 52,000 state prisoners, making it one of the largest prison systems in the country. With over 10,500 employees, it is the state's largest law enforcement organization. The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) is a state-run prison system in the United States. The agency's headquarters are in Forsyth, Georgia, on the former Tift College site. The GDC is based in Gibson Hall, which is part of Tift College's State Offices South in Forsyth, Georgia. The Georgia Department of Corrections was housed in Atlanta's James H. 'Sloppy' Floyd Veterans Memorial Building until 2009. Governor Sonny Perdue indicated in 2006 that the agency's offices would be relocated to Tift College by 2009.
