Established in 1902, Georgia Power - an electric utility runs streetcar in Atlanta and acts as a successor to the Atlanta Consolidated Street Railway Company. The Savannah Electric and Power Company - a separate subsidiary of Southern Company was merged into Georgia Power in 2006. Headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, this investor-owned, tax-paying public utility firm is the leading of the four electric utilities that are governed and operated by Southern Company serving more than 2.4 million customers in Georgia and employing approximately 9,000 workers throughout the state.
