Internationally headquartered in Montreal, Canada, Gildan is one of the largest vertically-integrated companies specializing in the manufacture of apparel, socks as well as hosiery aspiring to make a leader in ethical and sustainable manufacturing practices. Back in 1946, the company was started by Joseph Chamanday by the name of Harley Inc. as a basic children apparel manufacturing firm that produced activewear, apparel as well as sleepwear in Montreal, Canada. In 1982, the leadership of the company was transferred on to the grandsons of Joseph named Greg and Glenn Cahamanday. The company specializes in selling its products in bulk to printers, companies, and brands who then choose to decorate it as they seem it fit. The company currently owns around 25 manufacturing facilities worldwide with 90% of its total revenues generated from products that are manufactured in its own factories.
