About GIS Intern

What does a GIS Intern do?

As GIS Interns (Geographic Information Systems Interns), we are responsible for assisting teams that manage geographic data. Our tasks can range from testing targeted parts of the software to creating and documenting use cases. We collect data, create maps, or help GIS Analysts with creating maps. Also, we are involved in a lot of digitization. Our job of GIS Interns can be similar to GIS Analysts’.

We work across industries, and can specialize in database management, cartography, programming, and more. To land a job as a GIS Intern, most companies require us to be full-time students with a major or minor in GIS, Geography, Geoscience or related discipline.

Core tasks:

  • revision of geospatial operations

  • on sight support

  • data acquisition

  • working with CAD tools
