Golden Key International Honor Society was founded in 1977. It was formerly known as the Golden Key National Honor Society. This was founded by James W. Lewis at Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia. The Society's corporate head office is located in Atlanta, Georgia, United States. It is a non-profit organization. Its central goal to form the social association is to empower individuals to understand their potential through the headway of scholastics, initiative, and administration. Also, to recognize academic achievement among college and university students in Australia, The Bahamas, Canada, India, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, and the United States. Golden Key offers more than 250 leadership and performance awards each year along with scholarships, grants, and travel opportunities for students in more than 400 local chapters in over 180 countries.
