Roy Applequist, the company's founder, founded Great Plains Manufacturing, Inc. on April 1, 1976. Great Plains began operations in a tiny shop in Salina, Kansas, for the first two and a half years until relocating to Assaria, Kansas, in 1979. Today, they have their corporate headquarters in Salina and manage eight state-of-the-art manufacturing sites in central Kansas, totaling 1.6 million square feet.
