What does a Grocery Department Manager do?

As Grocery Department Managers, we are responsible for ensuring an organized and smoothly run grocery department. We participate in developing the annual budget and long-term strategic planning for labor and operating expenses and capital spending. We meet labor, sales, and margin goals determined in conjunction with the general manager.

Core tasks:

  • maintaining pricing structure that meets budget goals
  • maintaining a working knowledge of margin reports and financial goals
  • assisting in keeping stocks accurate and prices in POS system
  • working with the management team to establish department merchandising, product selection criteria, and category management
  • coordinating product selection and cross-merchandising of the products with other departments
