Gwinnett County Public Schools

GCPS at one time was a great place to work. The current environment, however, is toxic. Behavior problems are constant and support is spotty at best. The county is more concerned with political impact than educational impact. I pray this changes for the students’ sake.

The teachers are amazing. The majority of administration and those who I encountered at the board are not. There’s no teacher support. Also major fraudulent behavior going on. Someone sitting in a position at the ISC who makes 6 figures should not be allowed to teach summer school (especially at GOC) and take away that salary from someone else. Another teacher who’s friends with sed employee shouldn’t have to have the ability to make 6 figures with odds and ends stipends. Where’s the share the wealth? A principal should not be able to outright lie and write up an employee because he holds grudges against perceived behavior. These are just three examples of an extremely negative culture that runs rampant throughout the district. Parents rule all and there is no teacher support. Want to do well in Gwinnett? Hand out As.

When you treat newly hired people to a team you would hope to receive a welcoming and pleasant set of team members who desire to mentor a new person to the ways and culture of the organization. Not so with executive leadership at GCPS. Undocumented roles and processes with little structure leave new people wondering how the organization ever received the accolades and awards they have gotten. If you like a highly controlled hands-on/micro-managerial approach to every detail of your job and asking permission for everything then go for it... otherwise avoid going to GCPS as a career choice. You will not be welcome. Ask yourself why 2000 employees leave every year and why retention is so difficult at GCPS. Well, maybe you now can piece together its not a great place to work at all.
