Toxic work environment with rampant misogyny, exclusion of minorities and females, gatekeeping of information necessary to task completion, no room for advancement or self improvement training or education as becoming more skilled makes you a threat to the incompetent people above you who will do everything in their power to keep you down. Unequal pay for minorities and females compared to straight, white, males (several thousand dollars/year in salary difference for the exact same qualifications and job experience levels. supervisors and managers that are not even qualified to do the job they are being paid to do (example: a software engineer who is in a lead technical writer role who has zero education in english or writing beyond the standard 12th grade high school level, who can barely spell, has zero knowledge of proper grammar and sentence structure type questions, and whose handwriting is indecipherable chicken scratch). Zero effective professional development or mentoring.

Pros and Cons
None whatsoever
Everything. Toxic culture. Toxic leadership. Incompetent supervisors. Actively anti-DEI.

As a program administrative coordinator, it was my job to ensure the program engineers had everything they needed to do their jobs and the program ran smoothly - whether that was internal meetings or external customer meetings - I had a hand in ensuring it went smoothly. However, upper management tends to put people in place without ensuring their choice of placement was what was best for the team as a whole, which has a tendency of trickling back to the customer and affecting their end product / service. It appears to be easy for upper management to blame those on the program, rather than take notice of the voices coming from the trenches prior to their "placement decisions". As for the role of the admin, I truly believe we are being phased out as the newer admins coming in seem to have a different view of their job responsibilities / functions making one wonder what their "purpose" is on the program. As for "advancement" for an admin, it is extremely limited

Pros and Cons
Camaraderie within the individual programs feels like a close knit family, every other Friday off
Upper Mgmt. does not listen to Program concerns; Admins have no chance for advancement

What started as a great job quickly turned into a deplorable situation. Managed by process and policies with absolutely no voice to change things. Empty promises finally took its toll and was forced to make a career changing decision for the job was effecting my health.

Pros and Cons
Salaried employment
No career advancement, no voice in making conditions better, managed as a number, not a person.
