What does a Health Information Technician do?

We, the health information technicians, process and maintain all the medical records of hospitals or clinics. We, the medical records technicians, have the core responsibility to manage the information recorded by doctors, patients, and healthcare specialists. We keep patient records up-to-date and private. Other duties incorporate compliance with processing patient forms, privacy laws, and implementing an efficient record system. We obtain and process medical histories, patient forms, and test results from medical practitioners.

Core tasks:

  • analyzing the information obtained to make sure it is accurate and correct
  • assessing insurance claims and health records
  • ensuring compliance with regulations and laws related to confidentiality
  • manage and updating information for registries and clinical databases
