The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), a department of the United States Department of Health and Human Services agency, is the major federal agency in charge of improving health care for persons who are geographically remote, economically disadvantaged, or medically vulnerable. It was established in Rockville, MD in 1982. Its mission is to enhance health outcomes and create health equity by providing access to high-quality services, a competent health workforce, and high-value, creative programs. HRSA programs assist persons in need of high-quality primary care, including HIV/AIDS patients, pregnant women, and mothers. HRSA also funds health-care professional training, as well as the distribution of providers to places where they are most needed and advancements in health-care delivery. HRSA predecessor agencies have been working to improve the health of the poor since 1943. They offer opportunities without any discrimination.
